Animal instincts are quite amazing. Secular scientists admit that many creatures appear to have some sort of inbuilt genetically programmed code which regulates and guides their activities. Consider, for example, a newly hatched spider which is able to weave an intricate web without being taught, or a recently emerged butterfly somehow knowing to navigate a 2,500-mile migration route without a guide.
Mentioning the marvels of animal instincts during a discussion is an easy way to bring up the things of God. Whether it is the migration instincts of Salmon or the ingrained design skills of the honeybee, animal instincts provide an intriguing way to start a conversation. Once there, simply explain that the Bible reveals that God has endowed each creature with specific knowledge. Scripture, not evolution, explains animal instincts. Then you can share that the same Creator who placed instincts in animals, also placed His laws in man’s heart. Only the Bible explains where animal instincts and man’s conscience originated from. Then go through a few of the commandments using the spirit of the law to reveal our need for the Savior. Finally explain how we can be reconciled to our awesome Creator by turning from our sins and trusting in His substitutionary death.
In the Book of Romans, we are told that God’s “invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” Animal instincts and human conscience offer two more proofs of His eternal power and Godhead.
