“The best defense is a good offense.” We’ve all heard this expression is sports, but do you know that it applies to Christians as well? Consider the apostle Paul. Here was a man driven to reach souls. The love of Christ compelled him to preach the Word though he suffered greatly in the flesh for his uncompromising witness.
Often, we as believers are overwhelmed with our personal circumstances. However, severe as our troubles may be, they are probably no more intense then what Paul experienced. If you doubt this, read Second Corinthians chapters 6 and 11 for starters. Despite Paul’s overwhelming difficulties, by God’s grace, he pressed forward and stayed on the offensive. Jesus assured us that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. It is hell that is on the defensive, not believers. We are to be on the offensive.
When you’re dedicated to reaching the lost, you’ll find that you’re soon so immersed in their troubles, their eternal fate, and bound by compassion for them to escape hell, that your own problems diminish. The Lord’s grace is there to enable you and you become a channel for His living water. So be encouraged as you reach out this week. As the Lord opens doors to share with and serve others, Jesus will provide for your needs, and you can stay focused on turning back an eternal soul that is headed for everlasting destruction.
