It was the Saturday before the 9/11 tragedy. I was weak and tired from chronic health problems and insomnia, but I sensed the Lord lead me to go out and witness. So I got on my bike and slowly headed toward the canal path where I knew there would be people.
I gave out a couple tracts and then I came upon a young man who was working at a canoe rental stand. Dustin was saved, but needed encouragement to be a witness at school. Before I left he asked for some tracts for school next week. I told him I would give him whatever I had left on the way back. As I returned to give Dustin the tracts, he didn’t look very happy. I asked him what was wrong, and he pointed to the dock where he rents canoes and said “Why don’t you witness to those guys?” There on his dock were 8 or 9 teenagers dressed mainly in black. Dustin told me that they often take over his dock and won’t leave when asked.
I was afraid, but I told Dustin to pray and I would go down and share with them. I had some shiny coins with the Ten Commandments impressed on them which I offered to the teenagers on the dock, and to my relief several accepted. What happened then will have to wait till next time. However, this I can say, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
