As I entered the youth detention center where we hold a weekly Bible study, I was informed that there was a new inmate who was a professing Satanist. I introduced myself to Roy and invited him back to the Bible study. He made no response. I persisted, “Roy, why don’t you come back and hear about your Creator and all the things He has done for you?” Roy looked up and replied, “He hasn’t done anything for me.” I said, “Oh really, it looks to me that He has given you two healthy legs to walk on and a mouth and stomach to enjoy His delicious foods.” He ignored me. I persisted, “I suppose God didn’t give you those big blues eyes to gaze upon His awesome creation with?” He looked up and smiled saying, “I suppose not.”
I continued to remind him that not everyone has eyes to see with, legs to walk on, or even stomachs to enjoy food with. These are all gifts from God. In fact, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights.” Satan, on the other hand, has come “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” Roy now had much to think about.
When sharing with the lost, it is important to remind them that God has blessed them in many ways and that their ingratitude is idolatry. To seek the gift yet neglect the Giver is foolishness and sin. So when you’re sharing, remind them of God’s good gifts.
