Jesus prophesied that lawlessness would abound in the last days. This means that many would forsake the Ten Commandments as a moral code, and moral relativism would dominate. This prophecy provides a great springboard to explain the gospel.
Say you’re having lunch with someone at school. Ask them if they think society is forsaking the Ten Commandments. Listen as they answer, and then explain that God foretold that lawlessness would abound in the last days. You can then offer many examples. For instance, remind them that blasphemy is increasingly prevalent today. Many people use their Creator’s name in vain at will. 50 years ago Hollywood never included blasphemy, but today it is everywhere. Or explain that society used to frown on adultery; but today fornication and adultery are winked at or even encouraged.
Then ask if they have kept the Ten Commandments. Next, reveal the spirit of the Law. For example, greed is idolatry in the Bible, hatred is equivalent to murder in God’s eyes, and one lie makes us liars, and all liars will have their part in the lake of fire.
Once they are convicted, let them know that the wrath of God will soon fall on those who have broken His law, but God offers mercy and forgiveness to all who will trust in His Son. This single prophecy is both a convincing proof of the Bible and a convicting truth to awaken their conscience.
