Jesus said “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”[1] And in the Book of Jeremiah God explains what knowing Him unto eternal life really means. Through the prophet God spoke these words: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight.”[2] Later in the Book of Jeremiah God explains that truly knowing Him results in just and righteous actions, as well as helping the cause of the poor and needy.[3]

In contrast the apostle Paul warns that there would be those who “profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.”[4] Therefore truly knowing God means obeying Him, walking in His righteousness, and reaching out with charity to those who are in need.

There are none as needful or poor in spirit as those who remain lost in sin. Therefore, let’s renew our determination to truly know God by investing our time, talent, and treasure to reach them for His glory.
