According to the Bible there are two main reasons a person remains blinded from the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One reason is stated in 2 Corinthians 4:4: “the god of this world has made blind the minds of those who have not faith.” In other words, they have been blinded and taken captive by the devil to do his will.
In John 3:19-20 Jesus explains the second main reason they remain blinded: “men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”
Recently I was sharing with a man who understood the gospel, the blinders were being removed, yet he was unwilling to surrender his life to the Lord. Toward the end of our conversation I asked him pointedly – “What sin do you love more than your Creator?” With a straight face he said “sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll.” I then reasoned with him about the emptiness of these sins and concluded with this verse: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
He left with much to think about. When you share, pray for the blinders to be removed and the light of the glorious gospel to shine into their hearts. If they understand, yet love their sin, reason from an eternal perspective and warn of the coming judgment. Perhaps God will yet grant repentance.
