The fact that each man has a conscience, as the Bible explains, is compelling proof of the Divine inspiration of Scripture. How can we use this when witnessing? Here’s one way. Ask someone – “Where do you think our conscience came from?” If they respond “From our upbringing or culture”, ask them where the first man’s conscience came from. If they’re honest, they will have to admit that it came from the Creator. Then ask – “Do you know any book that explains the origin and purpose of our conscience?” Explain to them that it is the Bible and point them to the first three chapters of Genesis and Romans chapter 2. Ask them, “Do you know the ultimate purpose of our conscience?” Give them time to answer, and then explain that our conscience reveals our need for the Savior. Then ask “To see if the Bible is true, may I go through a few of the Ten Commandments to see if you need the Savior?” Explain that one lie makes us liars before God. Using the Lord’s name in vain is blasphemy. God sees lust as adultery and hatred as murder. Then ask “Do you see how our God-given conscience reveals to us that liars, blasphemers, adulterers and murderers need the Savior?” This approach provides evidence for the Scriptures inspiration and convicts of sin. Why not give it a try?
