Each human being has a conscience. Have you ever considered where our conscience came from? How is that humans know right versus wrong? Did you know that the Bible, and only the Bible, explains the origin and purpose for our conscience?

In Genesis chapter 1 we are told that God created man in His own image and likeness.[1] Initially man knew only about good, but nothing of evil. However, God gave man a choice to obey or disobey. They were allowed to eat from every tree in the garden except “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” for in the day that they eat of it they would die.[2]  We know what happened. Adam and Eve chose to disobey and eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. After their disobedience, God declared – “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.”[3] Before disobeying, man knew only good. However, from this point on, every person has a built in knowledge of right versus wrong. Romans chapter 2 explains that every man has God’s law written in their hearts. Their conscience bears witness to this fact.

Now consider this, only the Bible explains the origin of man’s conscience. This is a compelling evidence for the Divine inspiration of Scripture. It is also a great fact to share when witnessing. In the next program we will give an example of using this truth when witnessing.
