Beauty surrounds us: radiant sunsets, majestic mountains, brightly colored flowers, glowing gems, soothing foliage, brilliantly adorned birds. Beauty is a mystery to the evolutionist. However, Scripture reveals that God creates beautiful things for our benefit and His glory. James reminds us that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” This includes the beauty of God’s creation evident to all.
When approaching strangers it is easy to use the beauty of creation to start a conversation. Begin in the natural realm and then, as the Lord leads, swing to the spiritual. For example, you can comment on the beauty of some flowers or the magnificence of some landscape and see how they respond. Or you could ask, “What purpose does beauty have if evolution is true?” Or after watching a nature program or reading a nature book you can bring up how beautiful and amazing a hummingbird or some other creature is.
I have used this as an opener on several occasions and it causes people to think and can often lead to an eternally important discussion about our awesome Creator. Pray and try it this week. And remember, creation seen in the right light, always glorifies the Creator.
