The Prophet Ezekiel had a difficult ministry. He was commanded by God to warn the people to repent or face utter desolation. These people had hardened their hearts repeatedly, lawlessness abounded, and they even dared to say that “the way of the Lord is not fair.” Sounds like today doesn’t it? How did God have the Prophet respond? In Ezekiel chapter 22, God commands Ezekiel – “show her all her abominations!” He then proceeds to use the moral law to bring to light their sins against God. He exposes the sin of child sacrifice as idolatry and murder. Today abortion in the womb is idolatry and murder – placing convenience before God. God also lists the sins of dishonoring parents, oppressing strangers, mistreating the fatherless and the widow, profaning the Sabbath, lewdness, fornication, adultery, incest, bribes, greed, extortion, and finishes the list with theses words – “[they] have forgotten Me.” We too are commanded to warn every man of the coming judgment. In these days of moral relativism when sin is considered a small matter, we too must use the 10 Commandments to name sin specifically. Paul writes “I would not have known sin except through the law.” By using the Law to expose sin, God will convict unbelievers of their sins against Him and grant repentance to all who obey the gospel.
