Here is an easy way to witness. Ask someone if they think they will go to heaven when they die. Most people believe they will.[1] Then ask “Why?” Most will say, “Because I’m a good person.”

Then ask them if they’ve kept the Ten Commandments,[2] and go through a few of them. For example: “Have you ever told a lie, or stolen something – even something small?” “Have you always placed God first by reading and obeying His Word?” “Have you ever used His name as a curse word?” “Have you ever had hatred for another person? Remember, God sees hatred as murder.”[3] If they admit their guilt, ask, “What does this make you?” Then explain that if we have broken any of these commandments, God sees us as Liars, Thieves, Idolaters, Blasphemers, and Murders at heart.[4] At this point in the discussion, it’s important to call sin by name so they understand the seriousness of their sin against God.[5]

Then explain that the penalty for breaking God’s Law is death and hell. If they appear convicted, then share the gospel with them. This approach is simple, convicting, and biblical.[6] The good news will now make sense to them. Please pray this day and give it a try and remember “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul.”[7]
